Deneen is past president of the Vancouver Island chapter and current member of Advocis, the Financial Advisors Association of Canada; a member of the Financial Planners Standards Council and is Past President of the Victoria Estate Planning Council. She holds her Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Chartered Financial Consultant (CHFC) and Certified Health Specialist (CHS) designations. Deneen is a certified first responder with the Highlands and Piers Island Volunteer Fire Departments. Deneen and her husband Len are parents to Sydney and Dalyce and grandparents to Brooklyn

Carla Pusateri

Administrative Associate

After three years in the general insurance industry, Carla joined the McVagh Cunningham Group team in 2007. Carla’s skills and interest in administration allow her to work closely with Nicole, while taking good care of the clients’ needs.   She is able to leverage the knowledge of her father – Chuck Pusateri, an established advisor with over 30 years in the industry – as a resource while working with many of his former customers.  Carla prides herself in providing and delivering excellent administrative service to both employers and employees.

Gillian Murray

LLB, B.Soc.Sc, Marketing Associate

Gillian graduated from the University of Victoria in 1997 with an LLB. Gillian then developed an interest in the financial industry, while she worked as an Account Manager at HSBC. She joined the McVagh Cunningham team in early 2007. Gillian works closely with Deneen, managing client’s administrative needs for insurance and investments.

Joan Cunningham

Controller

As a life-long small business owner, Joan has honed her financial management skills with her own entrepreneurial endeavours, as well as the bookeeping for the family businesses. She joined McVagh Cunningham in 2003, and helps ensure a healthy management and maintenance of the financial picture of the company.

Our History

The McVagh Cunningham Group story began back in 1962 when Jack Harrington started his insurance practice in Calgary. He moved to Victoria in 1972 and hired Barb McVagh in 1978, as he wanted to ensure his clients were taken care of for their lifetime. Barb, like Jack, upheld this continuity by hiring Deneen Cunningham in 1994.

Deneen’s entrepreneurship was destined from the start, as she comes from a family of small business owners. Her career in the stock brokerage industry began in 1982. This later led her into the insurance world. Her experience and knowledge made her the perfect fit to continue Jack and Barb’s legacy.

Content goes here Barb retired when she sold the practice to Deneen in 2005 but stayed on as a consultant for a number of years after. Her passion for travelling ensures she spends much of her time seeing the world.

Nicole Ardiel joined the Great-West Life Assurance Company in 1997 as an Employee Benefits Specialist. After five years, she moved to Freedom 55 Financial to work with Chuck Pusateri, an established financial advisor, who also specialized in the group benefits arena.

In 2005, Nicole joined forces with Deneen and Barb and the rest of the team at McVagh Cunningham Group. Shortly thereafter, Chuck retired and Nicole began to look after many of his clients, in addition to her own growing practice. Today, Nicole and Deneen perform within their respective specialties, but also work closely together to help ensure their clients receive the full financial planning experience.
